Two Monkey Quilts
I was going through some old photos today and found some quilts from way back, about nine years ago. I apologize for the photo quality. These were taken with an old point-n-shoot. I made these quilts for a baby shower. They're not bad, but I didn't exactly get things as flat as they should have been, know what I mean?
For the name on the back of the quilt, I simply drew letters freehand style, cut them out, and used fusible webbing to adhere them to the background. Then, I outlined them with stitching just in case the fusing was to wear out over time.
The quilt above was meant for the crib and then I also made a smaller, raggy quilt for the car seat and stroller.
I found the monkey print at Joann Fabrics and used it to make lots of rag quilts. When I saw how popular they were, I went back for more, but it was too late. It had sold out. I still had a little bit left when the baby shower invitation came, so I used it up in these two quilts. That greenish fabric, in the photo above, came from a Hawaiian style shirt. The palm tree was embossed into the fabric and I thought it was just the neatest and it went perfectly with the monkey fabric, which also had palm trees on it. I love serendipitous little things like that.
