Bento Box

I am intrigued by the disjointed pattern of a Bento Box quilt.  It looks like a square has been cut in quarters and put back together in not quite the right way.  Of course, I had to try making one.

I used a lot of fabric from the scrap bins for this one.

Straight line quilting.  It would be hard to tell from the photos, but I alternated light green and dark green threads on the top and used navy blue on the back.

My favorite part of this quilt is the floral print.  I also like the contrast between the yellow & the gray.  I usually don't go for grays, but I really like it in the border of this quilt.  I found it at a little fabric shop and I've gone back twice to buy more.  You'll be seeing it in several other quilts later.  It's not just gray.  It's like a watercolor with pink undertones that give it warmth and depth.  I don't know if you can tell from the photo, but it's just a nice color.

And take a look at this.  Can you see the flower/leaf design in the rust colored fabric?

It looks like it was embossed and the fabric is slightly shimmery.  It doesn't appear as pretty in the photo, but I assure you, it's lovely.  I like finding those kinds of unexpected surprises in a quilt.

For the back, I used a vintage sheet in light yellow.  I wanted to make the back light and happy.  But because it seemed so plain, I added some raw cut, appliqued hearts.  After it was finished, I wished I hadn't.  I felt like the hearts were too cute for this particular quilt.  It's not bad, it's just not what I originally intended.

And there you have it.  The Bento Box quilt.  I wouldn't mind making this pattern again.

Yep, I really like how the yellow looks against the gray.  Until next time!  :-)
